I made it a goal of mine, one which you are probably well aware of by now, to film so many episodes a weekend so that I am done when the baby arrives in May. (At the time of publishing this post the baby has arrived and all is well) See, if I were to count on filming episodes on the weekends after my wife has given birth and we have a crying baby and a cranky toddler (due to lack of sleep, he's just like his dad in that regard), I would be sorely disappointed. (But it looks like I may still have one more episode to do.)
I just finished up some b-roll to go along with the narration of some traditional beard application methods, and I'll tell you that was a bit of fun.
See, I was supposed to film these portions Friday so I could get the dialogue Saturday night and explain what's going on in the footage shown on screen. BUT the external camera monitor I ordered just for this project didn't arrive till today, Monday. So I waited until to night to film and realized I'll have to redo some of the dialogue because of the differences in process vs. my rough draft skills of writing.
I've been thinking a lot lately about the Jr. Claus Workshop and what it means to me. I've struggled in the past to see things through, especially projects of this level, and I'm really hoping that I can see this whole project as a success and not as another wish that never reached the "dream" status or potential. I've come to realize I love teaching others about things I'm passionate about, and I'm passionate about Santa Claus.
And though I sprayed a bit of rubbing alcohol up my nose tonight and I huffed like the big bad wolf, trying to make it seem like it wasn't such a big deal all because a camera caught it on tape, I am grateful for the knowledge I have that allows me to perform at such a level.
I hope that the knowledge I document on my website may be useful to those who are on a similar journey as I was my first season. As a traditional Santa, I wouldn't be able to do most of what I do without rubbing alcohol. I use it to prepare my skin, I use it to get the adhesive to loosen its hold on my lace pieces, and I use it to scrub off the stickiness that remains. How versatile I've come to find rubbing alcohol. I'll be happy if this project can become just a sliver as useful as I've found rubbing alcohol to be.
Thank goodness for 91% rubbing alcohol, just don't spray it up your nose.
